The History of Neecheewam Inc.
Neecheewam was formed in response to the need for resources specific to Indigenous children and youth that reflected their cultural heritage and community realities. Neecheewam was established in May 1975 as a non-profit charitable organization affiliated with the Native Clan Organization, and became a separate entity in July 1976.
From the beginning, Neecheewam was created to provide culturally responsive care for Indigenous children and youth. Those involved in its development recognized the importance of building services that supported healing, identity, and connection to community.
Today, that need remains just as important. Neecheewam continues to provide care grounded in culture, relationship, and the wellbeing of children and youth.
